How to model the Zhou dynasty Empty How to model the Zhou dynasty

We have to use one of the available EU3 mechanics to model the powerplay in the Spring & Autumn period of China. Basically we have three options:
- HRE system. The title being contested would be "Ba" (hegemon)
- Papal system. If it's possible to mod around the fact that only one religion can contest for Papal Controller (->"Ba"), it could work nicely
- Shogunate system. I don't like this one much because 1) it disables diplomacy of the individual states with the outside world, and 2) it is too rigid: e.g. Wu and Yue certainly competed for the title of Ba (and got it sometimes), but should not be part of the shogunate because they were officially not part of China.

Thoughts?

Well the HRE system that bananafishtoday mentioned in the thread seems good.
